I am Somayeh Kashi, an Iranian-American multidisciplinary artist living and working in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

My practice is rooted in curiosity and experimentation, moving between photography, painting, drawing, and sculpture. Across these different mediums, I am drawn to questions of place, identity, memory, culture, and the ways personal and collective histories shape how we understand the world around us.

My current work marks a return to clay and a deeper exploration of my Iranian heritage. Through figurative ceramic sculpture, I revisit Persian mythology and regional folklore, bringing inherited stories into conversation with the realities of the present. Ancient and folkloric figures become a way to examine war, displacement, environmental crisis, women’s rights, cultural memory, and the changing landscapes of Iran and the Persian Gulf.

For me, making is a way of looking backward and forward at once; examining what we inherit, what is being lost, and what we choose to carry with us.
